Children love books
Who would've believed that? They read more than adults. According to a recent study conducted by the 58 lending libraries in the 20 districts of Paris, during the first 6 months of 2015, 303,000 titles were borrowed by children against 52,000 by adults. And kids and teens are reading more and more. From 2009 to 2014, youth loans increased by 30%. Because reading is fun and it helps them grow. So why not give them books for Christmas?
At the Salon de Montreuil, there is the choice
As is the case every year, hundreds of stands exhibit and sell albums, novels and comic strips at Montreuil's book fair and youth press . The theme of this 31st edition is "For real, for false", in other words: the relationship between the imaginary and the real, the dream and the reality, the virtual and the concrete. With, as a model, Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Caroll's novel celebrating 150 years. An exhibition on Alice's theme animates the Salon de Montreuil, "Wonderland, the logic of the dream", through drawings by the author, and famous designers who illustrated the story. Debates with the authors on the relationship between reality and fiction are provided on the "Scène Littéraire", the space devoted to debates. On the menu: how does reality inspire authors, where do they get their ideas? In real stories or not? And how do they transform them thanks to their imagination?
Illustrators, pencil in hand
On the "Graphic Scene": illustrators crunching the favorite heroes of their readers. A springboard to escape.
We found at the Salon du Livre de Montreuil some wonders of albums and moving stories, captivating or funny like "Madame le rabbit Blanc" (Threshold Youth) directly related to the theme of the Salon. The author, Gilles Bachelet, had fun diverting the tale Alice in Wonderland through the character of the woman of the white rabbit. The white rabbit is too stressed because while her husband walks, she has to do everything at home and watch a flock of rabbits. Have a look at the Salon de Montreuil.
