It’s hard to believe that we’re halfway through 2017 already, but that we are! Now three days into July, we’re here going to take a look at 5 Movies Out This July We Can’t Wait To See.
The third chapter of the critically-acclaimed franchise is here, as Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict against an army of humans led by a Colonel who believes it’s either apes or humans that will live, without the option of co-habiting. With the apes suffering weighty losses, Caesar goes on his own quest to avenge those who fell fighting alongside him, and as he comes face-to-face with the Colonel, the two become embroiled in a battle that will decide the fate of their species, as well as the future of their planet. Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Amiah Miller, Terry Notary and Karin Konoval star, with Matt Reeves serving as director.
Sofia Coppola’s screenplay adaptation of the Thomas Cullinan novel of the same name finally comes to the big screen this month, after Coppola became only the second woman ever to win the Best Director award at Cannes 2017. Starring Nicole Kidman, Colin Farrell, Elle Fanning and Kirsten Dunst, the film sees Farrell’s character Cpl. John McBurney on the run as a deserter during the Civil War. Seeking refuge at an all-female Southern boarding school, the women there seem very willing to help, and sexual tensions arise, with dangerous rivalries taking to the forefront. This looks to be a classic tale and, with it already picking up big accolades, it could be making a name for itself for some time moving forward.
A prestigious cast comes together for Dunkirk, with Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh and Cillian Murphy teaming up alongside newcomer Fionn Whitehead and former One Direction star Harry Styles in his feature film debut. Christopher Nolan takes to the Director’s Chair for the film, working on his own original screenplay which tells the story of British and Allied troops which are surrounded by enemy forces, trapped on the beach of Dunkirk with their backs to the ocean as the enemy closes in. This one’s going to be a must-watch, and will likely be up for a number of big awards when the season draws around!
Based on the critically-acclaimed, hugely popular book series for kids, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie comes from DreamWorks Animations, introducing two boys who turn their usually very angry teacher into their home-created superhero character. Cinemas will be full of ‘tra-la-las’ when this flick hits the big screen! Jordan Peele, Nick Kroll, Kevin Hart, Kristen Schaal and Ed Helms lend their voices to the feature film.
Starring Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish alongside other big names such as Larenz Tate, Mike Colter, Kate Walsh and Kofi Sirieboe, Girls Trip comes from director Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man), and tells the story of four lifelong friends who travel to New Orleans for the annual Essence Festival. There, sisterhoods will be rekindled, as wild sides are reignited and there’s enough drama, romance, drinking and dancing for anybody to enjoy. This film looks like it could be the start of the next big comedy franchise, and we can’t wait to see the opening chapter if that is indeed the case.
