Through his account Instagram, Paige tells his story. In her family, her mother knows the predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer, and so she sends him to take tests at the age of 22 to see if she is at risk. Following this, she was tested positive for the genetic mutation, meaning she had a high risk of having ovarian cancer or breast cancer.
Initially, she does not realize the facts. She is 22 years old and does not imagine that cancer can hit her in the years to come, but she has given herself time for reflection. In the end, she had two choices: to go through a regular testing process to closely monitor the potential arrival of a cancer, including an upset life that always brings her back to that, or opt for double preventive mastectomy and not pace daily hospital corridors.
After mature reflection, to say to herself that by not acting, she was permanently afraid of the cancer, she decided not to live in the anxiety daily. Her awareness is summed up in a sentence: killing the chance of having cancer rather than cancer does not kill her.
His relatives supported him, including his boyfriend, although it was a difficult choice for both of them. Even before resorting to double mastectomy, she contemplates restorative surgery, with the idea of better accepting her "new body". Paige initially did not intend to share his story on social networks, nor even to talk about it, because of the delicate subject that is not easily addressed. But the day before her operation, her boyfriend wished to post a picture of her, saying he was proud. She then felt the need to talk about it, explain it, and she did it on Facebook.
Her post gave rise to many reactions to support her and also to share a similar story. Paige has realized the power of sharing experience on social networks. This became a force, and she extended her commitment to Instagram, posting pictures of her new body. During her forgiveness, Paige experienced both psychological and physical challenges: she had to accept her new body and try to endure pain and discomfort. The messages she received on social networks helped her a lot.
Paige named his account Instagram "Paige Previvor", meaning "pre-survivor". Very committed, she has created a true community around women who decide to fight cancer by prevention. If it is not completely rebuilt, its community is pushing it forward. Its account has only been open for three weeks, and already has more than 3,000 subscribers.
