A Palme d' Or awarded to The Square
This year again, many films have been a huge hit with festival-goers. But only one of them won the coveted Palme d ' Or : The Square, a feature film that tells the story of a divorced, conservative father in a museum, who is going to be confronted with complicated situations. Ecstatic, director Ruben Östlund ran on stage and even shouted the audience, delighted with his performance.
Big favorite of the Cannes Film Festival, 120 Beats per minute to win the Grand Prix. A great moment of emotion for the film crew, which has been particularly talked about. It must be said that the story is strong, since it evokes the fight against AIDS, and more particularly the work of the association Act-Up-Paris , which has multiplied actions to fight against this scourge, often in the total indifference, and for almost 30 years.
Deserving actors rewarded
On the actors' side, Diane Kruger and Joaquin Phoenix are in the spotlight, having received the awards for women's and men's performances. The first has burst the screen in a German film, Aus Dem Nichts , or In The Fade . She plays a woman destroyed by the death of her husband and son in a bomb attack, which will seek revenge. On stage, she sent an emotional message to all the victims of the attacks that have marked the world in recent years, and their loved ones.
The second, Joaquin Phoenix, has been awarded for You Were Never Really Here , in which he plays a brutal veteran, caught in a spiral of violence as he searches for the missing daughter of a senator. The actor obviously did not expect to win this trophy. The proof ? He had already returned his dress shoes with the rest of his business, and so went on stage ... In Converses!
Finally, Nicole Kidman has also been rewarded. The actress, absent from the ceremony, received a special prize awarded to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Festival, the aim of which was to reward her brilliant career. A real honor.
