The trend of crackle nail polish
The trend of crackle nail polish was launched early this spring by the American brand OPI with the "Shatter" collection. Singer Katy Perry and tennis player Serena Williams were chosen to present the two-tone manicures to be made with colorful shades like the blue "Last Friday Night" or the yellow "Simply Smashing" and the specially designed "Black Shatter" top coat to bring a cracked effect.
The formula of cracked nail polish
The crackle-effect nail polishes contain a conventional acrylic solvent which, in contact with the lower layer of colored nail polish, will be pushed back to the ends, due to incompatibility between the solvents once the two layers are superimposed.
The technique to apply crackle nail polish
Apply a maximum of two coats of colored nail polish to the base. Let it dry as long as possible. Then add a top layer of cracked top coat avoiding the edges of the nail. Caution: Proceed as quickly as possible because the crackle effect dries very quickly.
Tips
Do not use clear nail polish for the base. Favor a covering lacquer to accentuate the contrast. Apply a thick layer of cracked top coat to keep cracks to a minimum. Finish with a third coat of normal top coat for a brighter finish and better durability.
