Dress up vintage in style
Valérie Fournier , a fashion enthusiast and author of the book Dressing up vintage in elegance (published by Vuibert) gives you tips to become a pro vintage and avoid any flaw. Thanks to Valerie, learn to combine shapes, colors, fabrics, shoes ... to choose according to your age, your body and your personality. We also asked Laurent Journo , organizer of the Vintage Salon in Paris, to give us some fashion tips to easily adopt a vintage look. A hint of know-how, a usual finger and a wise eye, here are the three key elements for a successful vintage look.
The top: fluid, flowery and transparent!
When the weather is fine, it is very easy to find fluent and transparent items. Why do we love it? Because they bring a touch of lightness and femininity to a sometimes more austere look.
- The Flowered Liberty
After its appearance in the 1940s, the liberty made its big comeback in the summer of 2009. We dare the floral and colorful prints , but why also out of season? A scarf with printed finish and soft colors in autumn is completely admitted! - The paisley and feathers
Overdose of liberty? Why not opt for the paisley motif? Of Indian origin but of Scottish manufacture, it certainly gives a retro touch to your look. At the same time graphic, romantic and ethnic, it brings character to a tunic or a dress.
But be careful: the paisley must be worn by touch and in accompaniment of simple and classic lines! - The Vichy print
Blue or pink, the Vichy print is ideally worn in spring-summer with a small skirt with buckets , for a look at Brigitte Bardot on the beaches of Saint Tropez.
Skirt, dress, combi-short: long live Romanticism
Want a fresh & gipsy attitude to the Vanessa Paradis? 1st idea: We say "no" to the colors sad, the colors of the 70's too bland and those of the 80's too garish!
Rather, the colors are degraded and the tone on tone is left out. Attention: No yellow / brown / orange wedding ring! The trendy colors of the moment: yellow mustard, golden beige, oil blue or fir green!
The right fit for my clothes
Whether you have a filiform silhouette or generous, fluffy fabrics and vaporous cuts will go. One avoids the robe that arrives at the ankles if one is of small size. Even if this kind of dress very blue flower hippie is a cliché, we prefer the same, but shorter! If we have a small belly, we avoid tightening his clothes at the waist under penalty of highlighting this small defect. They are worn as is, with no waist and wide at the waist. For loose belts, prefer a very fine braided cord, cotton or leather, to tie on the side, very loose and falling on the hips. This season, flare jeans are more fashionable than ever. Perfect for a vintage look, they compliment the silhouettes of the round, especially if cut high waist .
What about the accessories?
- The scarf
A small silk scarf knotted around the shot, and the trick is played!
Ethnic the day and chic in the evening. With, we play on colors, finishes and patterns. - Sunglasses
The vintage butterfly shape glasses are ideal for a sixties look at Audrey Hepburn. They are preferably chosen from acetate , a very interesting material because it is easy to polish without being scratched. - Handbag
By purchasing a vintage handbag, no risk of having the same as the neighbor and that is a sacred advantage. This spring-summer, we put on red leather handbags with a Gucci bamboo hanse , a real little jewelry. - Ethnic and vintage jewelry
This is the must. Big rings, metal bracelets ... We wear them every day. - The belt
We opt for a thin white belt that we wear on blue jeans with, for example, a pair of shoes Repetto. - Hair accessories
Of all kinds and colors! A thin headband of leather or metal, a false hair braid tone on tone and hop, the vintage result is bluffing. - The shoes
In summer, we choose sandals in wood and leather and in the rain and in cold weather, we rather incline for suede boots or ethnic accessorized.
