Former Stoke keeper Shay Given has ripped into the attitude of Giannelli Imbula since his club-record move in 2016.

Stoke forked out a massive £18million to sign midfielder Imbula in February 2016 - smashing the £12m spent on Xherdan Shaqiri a year earlier - but he failed to live up the hefty price-tag in his 18 months at the club.

The former France Under-21 international has only made 26 Premier League appearances in total - with just nine starts coming in the previous campaign - and he is being linked with a summer exit to Ligue 1 champions Monaco.

Given, who spent two years with the Potters before leaving at the end of last season, has not held his punches as he gave a damning assessment of his former team-mate.

"Last year I was at Stoke and the transfer record was Imbula for £18m. He's come in from Porto and he's literally not tried since he's been there," he said. "That's a record signing for Stoke and Stoke is not a massive club financially.

"How do you scout heart and desire? He might look well at Porto. He might have a great past, he might have been great on the ball.

"He might have done this, done that, but he comes to a different country and doesn't even learn how to say 'good morning' to the rest of the team."
