What is glycogen?
Glycogen is a complex sugar. Consisting of different glucose molecules that are connected together, it is stored in the muscles and liver. Glycogen can actually be compared to a reserve of energy. He can thus deliver glucose according to the needs of the body, especially during an intense effort.
The glycogen has the advantage of being able to bring very quickly, through the bloodstream, glucose. It is therefore very useful, even necessary, for sports people or preparing for an unusual physical effort.

Which foods are rich in glycogen?
If you are not athletic, you do not need to look for more glycogen. A healthy diet is enough.
But athletes have to worry about their carbohydrate needs, whether before, during or after the effort. It is therefore important to increase glycogen intake a few days before the performance. It is advisable to favor complex carbohydrates with a low glycemic index, such as bread, cereals, pasta, potatoes or rice. During the physical test, prefer sugary and energetic drinks. After exercise, it is recommended to eat high or medium glycemic index foods, such as cereal bars, fruit juices and fruits. These will help replenish glycogen stores.
