England captain Dylan Hartley has confirmed he has signed a new contract with Northampton Saints.

Hartley has spent the last 12 years at Franklin's Gardens, making 229 appearances in the process.

The former Worcester Warriors forward has scored 115 points for the club since making the move in 2006 and he was appointed the club's captain for the upcoming campaign.

He was out of contract at the end of next season and he admits it was an easy decision to stay put.

"It was an easy decision to commit my long-term playing future to Northampton Saints," Hartley told the official club website.

"After completing my 11th year at Franklin's Gardens last season I was delighted when the club suggested extending my time here. I'm very proud to be offered an opportunity to continue playing and being part of such a great club."
