Tim Henman says Andy Murray would be foolish to risk his health to play at the US Open and hopes he is fully fit.

Murray has been hampered by a hip injury and was seen limping throughout Wimbledon before losing to America’s Sam Querrey in the quarter-final, and it remains to be seen if he is fully over the problems.

The British number one has not played since, but will be hoping to put his injury problems behind him in the final grand slam of 2017, which begins at Flushing Meadows on Monday.

The word from the Murray camp out in New York is positive and Henman certainly hopes that is the case and he will be able to do himself justice by going all the way.

"I hope he's going there to win it and, if he's going to do that, he's got to be 100 per cent healthy," the former British number one said.

"With what he's achieved in his career, making fourth round or quarter-finals is not what he's about. With the troubles he's had injuries and health-wise this year, it would be silly to put himself even further back.

"If he plays, great, but his hip is obviously something that he's going to have to manage so I hope he really feels he can do himself justice."
