Yes, you know: foundation is the foundation of makeup! But before you even apply it - which is not so simple - you have to know how to choose the right foundation. The one that will highlight your face, illuminate your complexion without making you turn orange. Julien Michelet, color specialist at Clinique France gives us all his advice to make sure you do not go wrong and make the right choice.

How to choose the color of your foundation?

Julien Michelet: You have to look carefully at your face and identify the areas where the skin is lighter and darker, the redness, the spots, the pimples ... This allows you to know your needs and know where to test the color. We test on the lighter areas, even to lighten the darker areas. We do not do the opposite, not to finish orange!

The ideal place to test the foundation is on the side of the jaw. We choose the hue that is least visible. If two shades are close to the natural color, we prefer the lighter, which will be easier to apply.

The sub-tone is also very important: rosé, beige or gold? The rosés are perfect for gray complexions, to be avoided on redness. The beiges are more universal and the walleyes are suitable for halted complexions.

How to choose the texture of foundation that suits us?

JM: To choose between a foundation liquid, powder or cream, we listen to his skin and his desires. Oily skin prefers powders, even if some liquid foundations are fat-free. Dry skin likes creams better, more comfortable. The cream and liquid textures cover better than powder textures, so you have to think about the desired finish: covering or natural.

On mature skin, a little shine will rejuvenate and restore life to the complexion. As for young skin, they want to matify fat areas to the maximum. Above all, we test before buying because we will spend all his days under. Comfort is paramount!
