Where do the freckles come from?
Freckles are caused by genetics and exacerbated by exposure to sunlight. On the genes side, there are 2 types of melanin. People with very light skin (phototype 1, 2 and 3) have only one of these 2 types of melanin. Result, in reaction to exposure to UV, they produce ephelides (the name of freckles). What if we're brown? People who have clear skin are not the only ones concerned. If you are brown in a red-headed family, or if one of your 2 parents has light skin, it is possible that you will produce freckles in reaction to exposure to the sun.
