Hull FC have retained the Challenge Cup after securing a dramatic 18-14 victory over Wigan Warriors at Wembley on Saturday.

The Airlie Birds, who beat Warrington Wolves in the final 12 months ago, secured the victory thanks to two tries from winger Mahe Fonua and a further score from Fetuli Talanoa, while the ever-reliable Marc Sneyd boasted a 100% kicking record.

Sneyd's kicking proved to be the difference between the two sides as Wigan scored as many tries as Hull, through John Bateman, Oliver Gildart and Joe Burgess, but stand-off George Williams only converted one of his kicks.

Sneyd was named man of the match for the second successive year in the final and believes his side thoroughly merited the victory.

"We've earned it and no one can take this away from us," the 26-year-old said. "We've won it two years on the bounce with the toughest route so nobody can take days like this away."

Winning coach Lee Radford praised the effort of his players to get over the line against last season's Grand Final winners, who they have now beaten three times this season.

"I said at half-time that these boys don't give in and they didn't disappoint," Radford said. "The boys gave everything. Phenomenal effort."
