Robert Kubica will make his long-awaited return to Formula 1 by driving Renault's current car at the post-Hungarian Grand Prix test.

The 32-year-old Polish driver has been absent from the sport since 2010 as he had to pull out of his deal with Renault the following season after suffering a serious injury in a horror crash at the Ronde di Andora rally.

Kubica was forced to have a partial amputation of his forearm during surgery following the incident and has been working his way back to full fitness since.

He completed 115 laps in the Lotus E20 during a private test in Valencia last month and is set to take another step back towards F1 next week.

Renault hope to have Kubica back in some form for the 2018 season and will assess him when he drives for them on the second day of the two-day test, which begins on the Tuesday after the F1 race at the Hungaroring next Sunday.

On Kubica's involvement, Renault F1 managing director Cyril Abiteboul said: "The first two days of testing allowed both Robert and ourselves to gather a great amount of information.

"The upcoming session with the R.S.17 at the Hungaroring will allow us all to obtain detailed and precise data in a current car and representative conditions.

"After this test, we will carefully analyse the collected information to determine in what conditions it would be possible for Robert to return to competition in the upcoming years."
