Madonna had to prevail against violent resistance when her daughter Mercy was adopted.

The 58-year-old singer opened the first children's clinic in Malawi on Tuesday (July 11) and gave an emotional speech on the occasion. She saw Mercy (11) and her son David (11) for the first time in an orphanage. Both had an illness, Mercy malaria, David pneumonia. "When I held her in my arms, I whispered in my ear that I would take care of her," said the pop queen. "And I promised them that they would one day be strong and healthy adults."

The adoption permit for David was granted to her relatively quickly. Unfortunately, things went very differently with Mercy - a total of three and a half years she fought to take the little one home with her. "This time the judge responsible said no. I was divorced and she informed me that as a divorced woman I am not suitable to raise children and that Mercy James was better off growing up in an orphanage."

Malawian law also allows potential parents to live in the African country for a year before they can adopt. However, the power woman was not simply satisfied with this: "If I am not given a logical reason for the word 'no', then I do not accept the word 'no'. I have hired a team of lawyers and brought the case to the Supreme Court. " It was "not an easy fight", but in the end it definitely paid off: Madonna was allowed to take Mercy to America with her.

So she wants to be a role model for everyone else in a similar situation: "I never gave up and never gave in. I believe that if you absolutely want something in life, the universe conspires to help you get it."
