A court stopped an auction selling very personal items from Madonna.
The 58-year-old singer issued an emergency court order against 'Gotta Have it! Collectibles'. The company was planning an auction to auction off the pop star's intimate items, including recently worn panties, a love letter from Tupac Shakur valued at 346,000 euros, and a hairbrush including hair.
Madonna says that she doesn't feel good about the fact that fans can extract her DNA: "The fact that I have a celebrity status as a result of my successful career must not include my right to keep my privacy, including of my most personal things. I know that my DNA can be obtained from parts of my hair. It is outrageous and insulting that my DNA is for sale to the public at auction. "
The Hung Up hit attorney's attorney has already requested 22 items back, including personal letters, tapes of unpublished footage, and private photos taken at a hen party at her home in Miami. These are to be taken from the auction that was scheduled for Wednesday (July 19).
The court documents also state that the 'music' singer suspects her "former friend", art consultant Darlene Lutz, behind the sale because she had access to things. The spokesman for Lutz and the auction house, Pete Siegel, describes the lawsuit as "baseless and worthless" and wants to tackle it. He commented on the 'New York Post' newspaper column 'Page Six column': "Madonna and her lawyers have, we believe, brought an unfounded and worthless lawsuit to stop the sale of Ms. Lutz's legal property. Madonna's accusations are vigorously challenged in court. We are confident that Madonna’s items will be back soon. "
A hearing is scheduled for early September.
