To meet Christine Angot, is to run the risk of a clash. She has verbal anger and assassination easy. Today this is not at all the case - no more than the other days, she assures. It seems to have been appeased.
In her new novel, she approaches the heart of the heart of her life: that of her mother. The great love this young woman felt for a bourgeois who ended by rejecting the commoner whom he was ashamed of. Then he refused long to recognize Christine, their daughter. There were also, already told, the sexual abuse on his daughter, presented here as a tool of additional humiliation in order to annihilate this mother ... loved by Christine with ups and downs. But it is a magnificent proof of the fact that love - it was only maternal and filial - always remains possible.
MC: To those who will say: "Another Angot novel about incest! What will you answer?
Christine Angot: I do not understand that question. It is not a book on incest but on the love story between two parents that all opposed. And on the love linking a mother to her daughter, a daughter to her mother, who evolves over their life but ends up overcoming the shocks.
And the abuses committed by the father on the daughter? They are not absent from the book ...
I treat them as one of the multiple avatars of the permanent social aggression perpetrated on the mother by the father, seeking to recall by all means to this woman that she was inferior to him. To humiliate him by imposing him the shame of not being able to avoid that. It breaks the ultimate social taboo, meaning to the mother that it is also above that.
As you once reproached your mother, who so loved your father, do you also have the taste for wicked men?
It was a time - past - when I was attracted to men of this kind, if not to love them. I said to myself: "I will get there, it will still go well. But it did not last long, it did not go beyond three-month internships.
You say put your love of writing on top of everything. Of all, really?
I live with someone I love and I have a girl I love. There is also love shared with my mother, which structures this book as much as my life. But writing commands. Without love I can live, not without writing.
You sometimes find it hard ... Error?
Let's say that if I feel confident, all is well. Otherwise, I do not let myself be crucified. I do not play the game of people, ready to do anything to make them more fun with me. Hence this impression of stiffness, I suppose.
