Warrington second-rower Ben Westwood has confirmed he hopes to play on for one more season.

Westwood, 36, is due to fall out of contract at the end of the current campaign but he feels he can still compete at the top level.

The Wire veteran is set to make his 400th appearance for the Wire when they face Catalans Dragons in the Qualifiers on Saturday.

Westwood says his proudest moment in his time with the club was their Challenge Cup success in 2010, and he feels he can end his career with more silverware if he does earn a deal for the 2018 Super League campaign.

He told the Warrington Guardian: “Taking my daughter Tyler up to lift the Challenge Cup trophy in 2010 was my greatest moment with Warrington.

“I was told I wasn’t allowed to take her up there, but we snuck her in and got a picture of her up there at the royal box.

“I’d like to get my other daughter Grace up there now, it’d be nice to take her up to that podium as well.

“One more year, let’s see if we can do it.

“I feel alright, slowing down and having footwork that’s not quite there comes to us all but I feel good. I feel as though I can do a job down the middle.

“Suspensions and injuries mean I haven’t played as much as I’d have liked this year.

“I still feel I can compete with the best and while I think that, I’ll keep going. It’s yet to be sorted out, we’ll have to wait and see.”
