Puy du Fou: total immersion in history

You come to the Puy du Fou for shows and attractions, but as soon as you enter the park, you are transported elsewhere. In the reconstructed villages of the different periods (Medieval City, Fort of the year Mil, Bourg 1900 ...), one enters a page of History, by the architecture and the decoration. Even the hotel that we choose plunges us into it: at the Camp of the Drap d'or, a kind of round tent, hard draped with blue hangings embroidered with fleurs-de-lis, here we are in the sixteenth century. And we believe it because the hostesses of Puy du Fou are dressed in ladies' gentes at the reception!

Same typical atmospheres in restaurants. At the Bourg 1900, one lunch at the Belle Epoque. The concern for historical accuracy and the refinement of details are found in the craft shops: the baker of the Medieval City cooks us like his ancestors, his good bread with chestnut flour. And under our eyes, the illuminator of the village of the eighteenth decorates with gold leaf the letters of the parchments.

Puy du Fou: about twenty shows per day and special effects worthy of the cinema

In the morning you can get at the hotel or at the entrance the guide of the Park of Puy du Fou, published every day where the hours, places and titles of the different shows appear. It remains to compose our program according to the interests of each one. In Puy du Fou, each show lasting between 15 and 40 mn, one can, by organizing, see a dozen in the day. From "Knights of the Round Table" to "Musketeers of Richelieu" and "Renaissance of the Castle" , the slices of History range from the 1st century to the 18th century.

Most of the Puy du Fou shows take place in the open air, in a life-themed themed setting of striking realism. On stage, magical tricks and ingenious machineries as in the great "peplums". It leaves the most active spectators of action movies panting. Thus, during the show "The Secret of the Spear" (during the Hundred Years War), the stone keel of 18 meters high, made mobile, really collapses! And a wall of 60 m long retracts inside the ground and disappears completely in the eyes of the spectators. As for the immense drakkar of the Vikings , it arises from the bottom of the pond with its true boatmen.

Equestrian art, falconry, wildlife tamers, musicians ... every Puy du Fou show appeals to many other actors and actors, and we are subjugated by their performances. In "The Secret of the Spear", riders perform equestrian acrobatics worthy of the world's greatest academies. In "The Sign of Triumph" (the fights of gladiators of Roman Gaul), tigers and lions enter the scene. At the Ghostbirds Ball in the Puy du Fou , master falconers tell a story in the time of the castles by conducting an aerial ballet of vultures, kites and owls.

Puy du Fou: between the fire of the trenches and the awakened dream of Cinéscénie

To do rather twice than one: the 2015 attraction of Puy du Fou, "The lovers of Verdun" plunges us into the Great War. A journey of breathtaking naturalism takes place in a trench of 300 meters, through the daily hell of the Poilus: rumbling cannons, earthquake, odors, soldiers passing among the spectators ... a dialogue extracted from Letters of Poilus , that of a soldier who writes from the front to his fiancée, on a certain Christmas night 1915. Poignant.

It made famous the Puy du Fou , this nocturnal historical reenactment in the open air of the history of the Vendée, from the Middle Ages to the Second World War. A blockbuster that has nothing of the mundane sound and light. 3400 amateur volunteers from neighboring villages have been there for 38 years, with the same passion. Populations costumed, cavaliers, sheep, wolf-dogs, black pigs and donkeys Poitou play an epic written by Philippe de Villiers, the founder of the park. The Cinéscénie du Puy du Fou is enriched each year with video projections in 3D and original music. The pleasure and the emotion still gain.
