Manchester United are set to open talks with Marouane Fellaini in the hope of getting him tied down to a new deal, reports say.
The future of the Belgium international has been thrown into doubt following the arrival of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea this summer, and he has yet to start a game for the Reds this season.
Fellaini did have the chance to join Turkish side Galatasaray in the summer, but Reds boss Jose Mourinho showed how much he rates the player by blocking the transfer to keep him at Old Trafford.
Mourinho has been quoted as saying that the United squad is weaker when Fellaini is not in it, and reports now suggest he will do all he can to get the midfielder tied down to a long-term deal with the Reds.
Fellaini himself has said he is happy at United working under Mourinho, but there is a chance he could become frustrated with his lack of first-team action and pursue a move in the future.
Mourinho does not want that to happen and reports are rife that he will offer the former Everton man a new deal, despite the fact he will turn 30 later this year.
