Launching this September, exclusively on Netflix, First They Killed My Father is the adaptation of Cambodian author and human rights activist Loung Ung’s best-selling memoir, detailing the horrors that plagued them as they survived through the vicious Khmer Rouge regime from 1975 to 1978. You can check out the new trailer and poster for the film – directed by Angelina Jolie - below:

Told through Loung’s eyes from the age of five, the film will depict the time when the regime first came to power, but will show just how the indomitable spirit and devotion of Loung and her family saw them struggle, but stay together during the toughest years of their life.

Also produced by Jolie, alongside Rithy Panh, the movie sees executive producers Loung Ung, Maddox Jolie-Pitt, Adam Somner and Charles Schissel on board, as well as Academy Award winner Anthony Dod Mantle serving as director of photography.

First They Killed My Father officially hits Netflix across the globe on September 15.
