Rebecca Burger, a 33-year-old fitness blogger living in eastern France, is at the heart of a sad (and strange) news. On Sunday, June 18, the young woman had a heart attack after the explosion of her whipped cream siphon.
"The Ard'Time brand violently hit her chest, causing a cardiac arrest. In spite of the intervention of help, the young woman could not be saved," reveals the magazine "60 million consumers" in an article aimed at alerting the public to this product.
Product Recalls and Security Alerts since 2013
Indeed, it is not the first time that the specialized journal points out this type of device, frequently put forward by professionals in television cooking programs.
In 2013 already, plastic foam siphons of the Ard'Time brand were the subject of a product recall 1 . Sold in several large and medium-sized surfaces, they presented risks of injury to users because of his head, likely to jump and eject the small gas cartridge inside. A defect of design which makes several victims the following year, the few posters present in stores to alert them having obviously not had a sufficient enough scope.
The siphon of all dangers
In 2014, two users escape the worst after being the victim of their siphon Ard'Time 2 , pushing the chain of supermarkets Auchan to react. She therefore sends a mail to the buyers of the product, but only those who hold a loyalty card of the store.
In parallel, "60 million consumers" lists on its website several siphons 3 of different brands likely to present a danger. It also alerts the Directorate General of Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF), but it struggles to reach a wide audience.
"In the space of four years, we have accounted for more than twenty accidents with the siphon Ard'Time and, in seven years, about sixty accidents all brands - sometimes leaving very serious after effects: loss of an eye, broken teeth, tinnitus, multiple fractures in the face or chest, "says the magazine.
Anxious also to inform the public, the husband of Rebecca Burger, Stephane, decided to publish a photograph of the apparatus responsible for his death.
In 2016, "60 million consumers" already wondered about the total ban of this type of product for the general public. The death of Rebecca Burger therefore revives the debate.
