'Sonic Mania' could be set for a physical release later this year.
Japanese gaming giant Sega has collaborated with Pagodawest Games, Christian Whitehead, and Simon Thomley to launch the new Sonic the Hedgehog game today (15.08.17) on Switch, PS4 and Xbox One but it could also be getting a physical release.
A Czech Video Games retailer briefly posted a listing for the game, including boxart, while a since-removed listing in Italy showed what appeared to be the physical version of the game.
The relaunched game features classical visuals and gameplay, as well as original levels and re-worked versions of originals levels.
What's more, Christian and Simon were crucial figures behind the remastered versions of 'Sonic The Hedgehog' and 'Sonic The Hedgehog 2'.
The launch comes after Sega confirmed a Sonic the Hedgehog movie is to be released in 2018.
Hajime Satomi, President and CEO of Sega Sammy Holdings Inc - which was formed after the 2004 merger between Sega and Sammy - revealed the company is working with Sony on the live-action film.
He explained: "Sega Sammy Group is currently planning with Sony Pictures to create a live-action and animation hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog movie scheduled for release in 2018.
"Like with this CG animation production, we would like to expand our business into other entertainment areas beyond what we are currently involved."
