Newcastle are ready to battle with a host of Premier League rivals to secure the signature of Jack Wilshere from Arsenal.

The Gunners midfielder spent most of last season on loan at Bournemouth in a bid to fight his way into the thoughts of Arsene Wenger, but it has not done the trick and a move away from the Emirates Stadium looks likely.

Wilshere is closing in on a return to action after breaking his leg towards the end of his loan spell with the Cherries, and staying with the Gunners would be his preferred option.

However reports claim he now accepts the fact he may have to move on to get regular first-team action ahead of the World Cup next summer, and a host of clubs are showing an interest in him.

Newcastle have had a frustrating time on the transfer front this summer, but Rafa Benitez believes he has a genuine chance of luring the midfielder to St James’ Park before the transfer window closes.

Wilshere does have options though as Bournemouth want him back, Crystal Palace and West Ham United are also keen, while there is also plenty of interest from abroad.
