Teeth that overlap, clash or move a little too much, is not only embarrassing aesthetically. When the upper jaw does not close properly on the lower jaw, repercussions can be felt on the rest of the bone chain and cause chronic pain in the head or back!
- The solutions :
The rings . As with teens, the orthodontist sticks on the teeth of the rings connected to each other by a wire whose spacing is adjusted each month. In general, it takes two years of treatment. Increasingly, the rings are laid transparent to avoid the social embarrassment caused by a "smile of steel".
Lingual orthodontics . This technique has seen a real leap forward. To straighten teeth, align them and / or coordinate the upper jaw with the bottom one, the orthodontist uses rings that stick on the inside of the teeth. It takes a month to get used to, but the discomfort is minimal. In fact, the only big difference with visible orthodontic treatment (placed on the outer surface of the teeth) is the price. It is explained by the precious materials used and by the precision of the arc which must be placed on the inner face of the teeth. The latter is most often made to measure.
The costs :
In lingual orthodontics, once the arch is placed in the mouth, allow about a year for a simple alignment of incisors and canines - from € 2,000 to € 4,000 - and two years if it is necessary to coordinate the two jaws ( from € 7,000 to € 9,000).
Then, it is necessary to consolidate (phase of contention) with a small wire glued at least three years, even for life in case of fragility of bone.
It may seem very long, but in practice, as the equipment is invisible and has gained much comfort in recent years, lingual orthodontics is very well accepted.
In comparison, the cost of conventional orthodontics is lower: around € 1,400 to € 1,800 per year. Social Security does not pay a cent for adults, whether the treatment is internal or external.
Only a few mutuals offer a small package of the order of a few hundred euros.
