Dangerous diet: the "monomaniac" regime
Yes, there are absurd and even dangerous diets. Fatigue, deficiencies, feeling of failure ... in detail, four methods that put us flat and do not work.
Beware of the most trendy revamped diets, supported by a pseudo-scientific or eco-enticing speech. Warning, with Hélène Tinevez, dietician and designer of the slimming cure in thalassotherapy of Roscoff.
"Monomaniac" diets
They are called "pineapple diet", "cabbage soup diet", "pink diet", "white" ... The principle is simple: they consist in eating at will one food. They are effective in the short term but deeply imbalanced and deficient. The choke effect on which one counts evaporates quickly because of the drives of compensation.
The opinion of the dietician: if it is not accompanied by a change in eating habits, there will be weight recovery, yoyo effect and feeling of failure, with a bad image of physical and psychological self. Because as our expert explains, "we are not even able" to make the method sold easy.
Dangerous diet: the "water diet" or fasting
Diet based on water, broths, herbal teas.
While the body is hydrated and eliminates toxins, but this diet is sorely lacking in fat, carbohydrates and proteins. Without intake of slow sugars, hypoglycaemia multiplies with their lot of "pumping" and fatigue. Without protein intake, muscle melting starts. Weakened, the body uses its own reserves of proteins to produce energy. Pay attention to the increase of the acetone level in the blood which reduces the feeling of hunger, which explains the euphoria of the first days which maintains the motivation.
The opinion of the dietician : on a day, the watery young (by philosophy, by well-being ...), it passes; over a week or a fortnight, as is often seen in the "hiking and dieting" stays, it becomes absurd. A beginning of muscle wasting appears, including in the heart muscle, and there may be tachycardia problems. In addition, renal function carburizes at full speed (sometimes too much) to eliminate the surplus of nitrogenous waste due to the degradation of muscle proteins. This overly restrictive diet leads to dietary compulsions when the diet stops which often did not exist before.
Dangerous diet: the "Low carb" diet
Low carb diet (Atkins, "Miami diet", Scarsdale ...)
This type of diet offers a diet rich in protein (fish, meat, eggs, cheese) and fat (oil, butter, mayonnaise). Fast and slow sugars are forbidden: sweets, chocolate, cottage cheese and yoghurt, fruit and fruit juice, starchy foods, legumes, dried fruits, alcohol, coffee and tea ... It guarantees rapid weight loss in the first six months, plus higher than in a conventional scheme. However, one year later, weight gain is assured, or even greater than the loss.
The dietician's opinion: these diets actually manage to lower the level of insulin (the hormone secreted during a rise in blood glucose following a dietary intake and which promotes the storage of fat) in the blood. However, there is also the rise of bad cholesterol and the decline in consumption of protective foods for the heart (vegetables, fruits). With less than 20 g of carbohydrate per day in the attack phase and less than 60 g per day in the stabilization phase, there is hypoglycaemia, increased fatigue, a risk of frequent constipation due to lack of fiber, and sometimes diarrhea related to excess fat. At the emotional level, anxiety or nervousness, related to the lack of magnesium. Muscle level, cramps and spasmophilia attacks.
Dangerous diet: the protein diet in sachets
These meal replacements may be interesting once in a while, but only. To flee over several weeks, because of monotony and saturation among others.
The dietician's opinion : if we do not drink at least 1.5 l to 2 l per day, the uric acid concentration in the blood will increase because of excess protein, with the formation of crystals (stones ) and the accumulation of toxins. Magnesium is further eliminated in the urine which causes fatigue, emotion and cramps.
