Aspartame: késako?
This articulel sweetener that made its appearance in 1965 is 200 times sweeter on table sugar . Notably used in soft drinks type sodas , say "light", it is an ally of slimming products because of its low caloric intake .
Authorized in France since 1981, this food additive is regulated at a daily dose of 40 mg / kg of body weight.
Subject to strong criticism as soon as it appeared on the market (pain, cramps, vertigo and even cancer), the health authorities had hitherto declared that there was no danger in consuming aspartame.
But two new studies show that certain high risk populations may be at risk by consuming these substances, although to date, no argument allows questioning the safety of aspartame by the Scientific Committee on Food of the European Commission....
Aspartame: carcinogenic?
An Italian cancer researcher has studied the cases of 240 male mice and the consequences observed after administration of very high doses of aspartame in the diet and throughout the life of the animals.
Result : The study reports an increase in the incidence of liver and lung cancer in rodents ...
But the National Agency for Food Safety (ANSES) underlines that due to the uncertainties and methodological deficiencies presented in the study, it is not possible to translate all these effects observed to humans!
Aspartame: the cause of premature births?
The second study was performed on pregnant women . It relates the consumption of soft drinks containing aspartame to an increase of nearly 38% in the risk of preterm birth .
Again, ANSES requests that these studies be confirmed because there is currently no clear evidence that there is a causal link between the consumption of sweetened beverages and the increased risk of premature delivery .

In an opinion published by ANSES, it considers that these two new studies provide no sufficient scientific basis , for a reassessment of aspartame toxicologically.
However , the agency wants to set up a working group whose mission will be to deepen the evaluations, and develop recommendations for the populations that would be qualified as " sensitive " during the tests ...
