Mercedes star Valtteri Bottas has picked up a second career victory after holding on to win the Austrian Grand Prix.

The Finn performed strongly throughout the entire weekend in Austria and converted his pole position into just the second win of his career.

Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari began second and posed a serious threat from start to finish but ultimately couldn’t find a way past Bottas, finishing narrowly behind as runner-up.

Bottas now sits just 15 points behind Lewis Hamilton in the Drivers’ Championship, while he is 35 points shy of leader Vettel and he believes he can still catch the German.

"We're not even in the halfway of the year, so definitely I believe and the team believes," Bottas said.

"Still a long year ahead. Like I said, we are still developing. I'm just loving every moment and it's going to be good."

The battle for third and fourth also provided plenty of excitement as Hamilton in the other Mercedes climbed up from eighth to put pressure on Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.

However, Hamilton failed to force his way on to the podium and has subsequently fallen further behind Vettel in the race for the world title.
