Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas will start the Austrian Grand Prix on pole, with team-mate Lewis Hamilton down in eighth place on the grid.
Bottas recorded a fastest lap of 1min 04.251secs, with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel joining him on the front row for Sunday's showpiece.
Hamilton qualified third but was hit with a five-place gearbox penalty, with Kimi Raikkonen and Daniel Ricciardo occupying the second row of the grid.
Next comes Max Verstappen, with Romain Grosjean, Sergio Perez, Hamilton, Esteban Ocon and Carlos Sainz making up the top 10 at the Red Bull Ring.
Hamilton paid tribute to his team-mate but made it clear he will be gunning for victory on Sunday.
"Firstly, congratulations to Valtteri - he did a fantastic job. He has been quick all weekend and Sebastian has been very quick," he said.
"It just wasn't meant to be today. I will do the best job I can, obviously I want to get up there and get a one-two with Valtteri."
Bottas was pleased with his display and felt the team were spot on in the way they set up the car.
"Really enjoyed it today and when you enjoy it usually the result is good," he said. "Got the car nice and stable for qualifying and was able to build up the confidence and this is a track where you really need it in the high-speed corners."
