Glasgow centre Alex Dunbar is a doubt for Scotland's autumn internationals with Samoa, Australia and New Zealand due to a knee injury.
The 27-year-old has been forced to go under the knife to resolve the injury he suffered in Glasgow's Pro 14 victory over Cardiff Blues in the Welsh capital earlier this month.
Dunbar has now been ruled out of action for the next six weeks and faces a race against time to be fit for Scotland's opening game at Murrayfield against the Samoans on November 11.
In better news for Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend, stars Jonny Gray and Stuart Hogg are making "good progress" in recovering from their respective wrist and shoulder injuries.
Neither have featured for Glasgow this season but the pair have not been ruled out of playing for Scotland this autumn.
