Lewis Hamilton says he was pleased with Friday's practice sessions in Austria but he wants more out of his Mercedes car.
Hamilton, who arrived at the Red Bull Ring on the back of a controversial Azerbaijan Grand Prix, enjoyed a near-perfect day in Spielberg with only a faulty spark plug, requiring a 15-minute interval in the garage, interrupting his running.
The Brit, who is searching for a fourth world title this season, ended up first in both P1 and P2 with a fastest time of 1:05.483 - a new record for the track - clocked in second practice.
Title-rival Sebastian Vettel was 0.147 seconds slower in second for Ferrari, while the second Silver Arrows driver, Finland's Valtteri Bottas, was 0.216secs off the pace come the end of the day.
Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo were fourth and fifth respectively for Red Bull while the second Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen was down in sixth in what was a frustrating run for the Finn.
Hamilton was happy with the performance across both sessions but he is hoping some improvements can be made overnight to get that little bit extra out of the car for P3 and qualifying.
"The car felt good. It was a pretty good day. We had a good baseline to start with and we kept chipping away at it," he told Sky Sports.
"We are going to work hard tonight to try and find some more performance. I got the car to the limit and we'll now look at the weaknesses to improve."
