- Wash it in cold water
To ensure the survival of your swimsuit, it is necessary, even vital, to wash your swimsuit after each use: we boycott machine washes that distend the elastic fibers of lycra and we minimize the simple rinsing with water clear, ineffective against chlorine and salt. The good gesture? Wash by hand, in cold or lukewarm water, with a mild soap or detergent.
- Dry it in the shade
Just like the washing machine, the dryer spoils the swimsuit, for the good reason that the (strong) heat attacks the elasticity of its fabric. As a result, we reduce (too) long exposures to the sun , especially if the jersey is wet, and it is allowed to drip, flat or suspended, in the shade, far from the ambient heat.
- Give him some rest
In general, materials such as lycra, nylon or elastane, need 24 hours to regain their original shape. It is therefore better to have (at least) two swimsuits to wear them alternately.
- Dispense it with sunscreen
Another danger: sunscreens and protective oils that, with powerful filters, can stain or discolor the textile fibers of the shirt. The trick: protect yourself 30 minutes before putting on your jersey, until the cream penetrates completely into the skin.
- Protect it from friction
The pool ledges, the sand, the deckchairs ... so many rough surfaces that, by friction, create pits on the fabric of swimsuits. Take precautions before sitting down and / or lying down and, in prevention, unsheathe your beach towel.
- Do not keep it in a ball
After removing your swimsuit, it seems more practical to wrap it in a ball in a towel, or worse, in a plastic bag. This is the best way to deform it since the prolonged humidity deteriorates the quality of the fabric. It is therefore wise to wait for the latter to dry in the shade, until you are (really) on the way back.
- Beware of spa
The heat of a sauna and the chemicals, such as bromine, required by hot tubs and other hot tubs are also dreaded enemies of the swimsuit. And since there is no way to do without, the best option is to choose a suitably used shirt.
