Rory McIlroy says he doesn't have anything to prove at this week's US PGA Championship in North Carolina.

Northern Irishman McIlroy has been far from his brilliant self this year and he has failed to win a single tournament - the only player currently ranked in the world's top-five not to have triumphed in 2017.

The 28-year-old has shown glimpses of what he can do over the past two outings, finishing tied-fourth in the Open at Royal Birkdale before ending up in share of fifth at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

Several positives have been taken from those two events but the four-time Major winner doesn't feel like he needs to impress anyone at the US PGA, which gets underway at Quail Hollow on Thursday.

"I definitely don't want to be in the mindset this week of wanting to make any type of statement or go out and prove myself. I'm past that point," he said. "I've proven myself enough over the last nine years of my career.

"Obviously, I wouldn't have won as much as I would have liked this year, and there's been a few components to that, injury-wise, changing equipment and stuff. It has been a bit of a transitional year.

"But I feel like everything's settled. My health is pretty much where it needs to be so I just want to go out there and play well this week. It's a golf course I've played well on before."
