Jake Gyllenhaal struggles to find a little humor in serious topics, especially given his new film 'Stronger'.

The film is an adaptation of Jeff Baumann's autobiography, who lost both legs in the 2013 bombing of the Boston Marathon. Jake takes on the role of the injured and finds it extremely difficult to give the character a bit of humor. "I think it was hard for me to understand Jeff's sense of humor in such dark times. I often take many situations too seriously and his sense of humor, which is so rough in the face of his situation, comes out so unexpectedly."

The experience of learning so much about Jeff's daily challenges has made the actor think a lot about himself. "What I realized is that there is a superhero in each of us," the 36-year-old told Entertainment Tonight. He sees this role as an opportunity to become a stronger person. "Playing such a character is a way to learn more about myself, see my mistakes and weaknesses. But Jeff reminds me every day of seeing my strengths in things that I never thought I was strong at could be."
