Light pigments: instructions for use
Classically, in colored formulas, we work on four pigments derived from iron oxides, explains Sylvie Guichard, director of scientific communication makeup at L'Oreal research: black (or blue, brighter), red, yellow and white. But today, we no longer content ourselves with using them "rough". They are "tinkered" to give effects of transparency, light and shine to the material. Textures containing high-tech pigments should be handled with care. Caroline Nègre, at Yves Saint Laurent, explains "They are spread on the fingers or brush, over a care cream (useless if treatment effects are claimed). "We began by understanding how the skin absorbs, processes, diffuses light," says the scientist. Young skin appears homogeneous thanks to the flattened cells of the epidermis and then, deeper, thanks to the cells in the form of hollow cubes, full of water and able to diffuse the light at 360 degrees. As the cells age, the cells become dehydrated. The passage of light is altered. The signs of age become evident. "We have developed an ultra sophisticated pigment assembly complex; mineral biomimetic powders which reproduce the optical properties of the epidermis, whatever its color: crystalline mica plates, hollow silica spheres to mimic well hydrated cells, and a complex of mineral powders. The whole, on the surface, serves as perfect second skin. "
The icing on the cake, the researchers introduced plant extracts with exceptional anti-aging properties: longoza from Madagascar and opilia from Burkina Faso. A perfect skin action, in and out somehow.

Light pigments for pressed women

As for care, it is a cocktail of seven active ingredients, vitamins, antioxidants, etc., which acts in the long term by reducing wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentary irregularities.

Light pigments for a personalized shine
"For a CC Cream à la carte, we have worked with three types of pigments," says Caroline Nègre, head of scientific communication Yves Saint Laurent. The classical iron oxides. Then we coated a transparent base of silica with red pigments to give a pink shade glow very bright. Third family of pigments: the bismuth oxychlorides, rectangular lamellas returning an extraordinary brilliance, perfectly homogeneous.
