Blazin’ Squad are enjoying some reinvigorated streaming success thanks to former member Marcel Somerville appearing on the hugely popular current series of ITV 2’s reality show, Love Island. Their track ‘Crossroads’ is the song doing the best thanks to Marcel’s re-emergence, and has now crossed a million streams on Spotify.
Originally released back in 2002, the song now receives a daily average of 1287% more streams than before the current series of Love Island began, with the song only racking up 23,000 listeners on Spotify ahead of the show’s debut. Now, the group boast 115,000 active listeners on the streaming platform.
Marcel has gone from being the most unpopular male member of the Love Island villa in the first couple of episodes to being a fan-favourite, enjoying a romance on the show with Gabby and even muttering the words “I love you” to her earlier this week, which he quickly tried to stifle with a cough.
He’s now odds on favourite to win the entire show and take home the prize money, but it’s his relationship with Gabby that people will want to continue following once Love Island comes to an end.
For now though, the show continues each night on ITV 2, with catch-up episodes of Love Island every Saturday.
