Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy is confident he could win his first title of 2017 at this weekend's Scottish Open.

The former world number one has had to endure a frustrating year with a number of injuries and issues with poor form.

He had to take time off earlier this year to recover but he continues to struggle after missing the cut at the Irish Open last week.

McIlroy's last appearance at the Scottish Open in 2014 was pivotal, as he won The Open Championship the week after at Royal Liverpool.

Ahead of this weekend's Scottish Open, the 28-year-old says his game is coming together.

He told reporters: "I'm positive about it. I'm excited about my game. I feel like I'm doing a lot of good things.

"It's just putting it all together, not just for one day but for four days; and not just for four days, to do it week in and week out," he said.

"I've got a busy stretch coming up and I'm excited to play. I might be putting a bit too much pressure on myself, but I know that it's coming around. But I'm realistic that I need to see it happen sooner, rather than later."
