Today, almost a third of food for human consumption is wasted. It is enormous. In France alone, nearly 10 million (!) Tons of food would be thrown away each year. Worse, 1.2 million tons are still consumable food. This represents 20 kg per French and per year.
Food waste: all concerned
To reduce these numbers, we can all act against food waste. And the reasons to make some efforts are not lacking.
- It is also an environmental problem ... since energy is spent to produce, process, store, pack and transport food. Greenhouse gases are emitted unnecessarily, which has a negative impact on the health of our planet. - Lined with an economic problem since the waste is expensive. In France it is estimated that it costs € 159 per person.
- But also ethical in a context of global food crisis but also national: in France, 1 in 10 people are struggling to feed themselves.
How to limit waste?
Reducing its impact is first of all anticipating and not buying more than what you can eat. Then there are small tips that reduce waste and save money:
- Identify which foods can be consumed once the expiry date has passed and the others
- Cook everything that can be eaten: radish tops, peel ... With a little trick the 'waste' is transformed into delicious recipes!
