Rafael Nadal is adamant that he is just focusing on his game and not the possibility of becoming world number one again.
The 31-year-old secured his 15th Grand Slam title this year with a 10th French Open crown while he has won four ATP titles to mark his return to form after illness and injury have blighted in him recent campaigns.
Nadal dropped down to ninth in the rankings last year mainly due to a wrist problem, but his exploits this year has resulted in him breathing down the neck of current word number one Andy Murray, along with fellow veteran Roger Federer, who has claimed the other two Grand Slams of 2017 to date.
A fourth Rogers Cup success in Montreal this week would put Nadal back on top of the world rankings due to Murray's absence because of a hip injury, but the Spaniard is just focusing on maintaining his good form.
"I don't even think about that now. I'm trying to have the right preparation now and that's it," Nadal told the ATP's website.
"I'm going to keep trying to play the way I did in the first part of the season, so if I'm able to make that happen, I hope to have a chance to do well."
