Rafael Nadal has crashed out of Wimbledon to Gilles Muller but Andy Murray and Roger Federer are through to the quarter-finals.

The Spaniard went down in an epic last-16 encounter 15-13 in the final set after roaring back from two sets to love down to force a decider.

Luxembourg's Muller played one of the matches of his life and a shock looked on the cards when he took a 2-0 lead, but the Majorcan is made of stern stuff and refused to give in.

The fifth set went with serve until Muller managed to secure the vital break to take the contest on his fifth match point 6-3 6-4 3-6 4-6 15-13.

Earlier in the day, world number one Murray was too good for Frenchman Benoit Paire, running out a 7-6 (7-1) 6-4 6-4 winner on Centre Court.

It was not as straightforward as the score line suggested but the Scot was delighted with the way he struck the ball.

“I thought I played well today, apart from a couple of sloppy service games in the first set,” he said. “That's by far the best I have hit it this week. He's not an easy guy to play - tactics aren't easy against him.”

Federer breezed past Grigor Dimitrov in little more than an hour and a half to reach yet another quarter-final at SW19 and afterwards admitted he expected a bigger challenge from his opponent.

“He gave me some opportunities and I was happy to take advantage of them,” said the Swiss ace. “I felt it was a terrific match for me, I didn't expect it to go that easy.”

The seven-time champion won 6-4 6-2 6-4 to set up a last-eight encounter with big-serving Canadian Milos Raonic who beat youngster Alexander Zverev in five sets.
