Benoit Paire will take on qualifier Peter Gojowczyk in Sunday's Moselle Open final after beating Nikoloz Basilashvili on Saturday.
Paire has been the nearly man throughout his career losing in his last eight ATP semis, but he ended that unwanted statistic with a straight-sets victory over the Georgian.
The Frenchman won 6-1 7-5, firing down 17 aces and saving all four break points that he faced in Metz, and will now contest his fifth ATP final.
The 28-year-old has won just one of them to date, with victory over Tommy Robredo in the 2016 Swedish Open, but will be in with a great chance of doubling that total as he faces qualifier Gojowczyk.
The German advanced when fifth seed and compatriot Mischa Zverev retired because of flu when down 6-3 1-0, and will look to continue his strong second half of the season.
