Teresa Palmer has been left "shaken up" after her son contracted a mystery illness.

The 31-year-old actress was distraught when her three-year-old son Bodhi - who she has with her husband Mark Webber - fell ill during a vacation to Hamilton Island, and has taken a moment to reach out to parents who have to watch their child endure "physical suffering" every day.

In a lengthy Instagram post uploaded on Monday (21.08.17), the 'Warm Bodies' actress began: "We have had a really challenging past few days with our precious Bodhi so sick. Two things; my heart goes out to all parents having to go through the heartache of watching their child in physical suffering. We are the lucky ones, Bodhi will be on the mend soon but it's really shaken us up, I can't stop thinking about all those other parents in a much worse position than us. (sic)"

And the 'Hacksaw Ridge' star - who also has eight-month-old son Forrest with her husband - also thanked the medical staff on the island for being "loving and connective" during the family's time of need.

She continued: "Secondly to the medical team @hamiltonisland Dr Mike, Dr Andrew, nurse Christine, paramedic Chris and all the others @Hamiltonisland(looking at you Dean!) THANK YOU what a loving and connective community this beautiful island is. Also to the big hearted, supportive and entirely accommodating team @audiaustralia we will forever be grateful for your support. Way to show those beautiful true colours in the first few weeks of our partnership #familyallaround (sic)"

Bodhi's illness comes just days after the 'Lights Out' actress spoke about how important motherhood is to her.

She said: "I've always been incredibly maternal. It was just me and Mum growing up, [so] I filled my time being a little nurturer.

"It's my favourite thing in the world to just be with my children and learn from them every day."
