Time change: far from unanimous
The time change is this weekend. So we lose an hour of sleep but the days get longer: we go to summer time . For the occasion, Ooreka and OpinionWay have released a survey to better understand the opinion of the French on the time change. Verdict: 52% of respondents would like to delete the time change. The French have a bad image of the time change. The main cause: 51% of them never know if they have to move forward or backward their watch (laptops take care of themselves).
Daylight Saving Time
On the night of March 26 to 27, 2016, at 2 o'clock, we will lose one hour of sleep by switching to summer time. And although only 17% of respondents favor the change of time, 76% would prefer to stay in summer time. The under-35s are the most ardent defenders of daylight saving time at 86% compared to 34% for the 50-64 year-olds, who are certainly more used to changing the time.
France at the time of change?
In France, the change of time was introduced in 1976 with the objective of saving energy (as a consequence of the oil shock of 1973). But the French are rather skeptical about the possible "virtues" of the change of time:
- 64% of French people do not think that changing the time can help save energy.
- 63% believe that this change of time has an impact on the body.
Many countries have already abandoned the change of time like Russia, Tunisia, Egypt, a total of ten countries, mostly keeping daylight saving time.
