Mercedes boss Toto Wolff is not surprised that Valtteri Bottas has settled into a "dream" car in his new surroundings.
Bottas was recruited in the off-season following the shock retirement of Nico Rosberg just days after he was crowned 2016 Formula 1 champion.
It was thought Bottas would play second fiddle to three-time world champion Lewis Hamilton but, after 10 races, the Finn sits in third spot in the drivers' standings and is just 22 points behind his colleague, 23 adrift of table-topping Sebastian Vettel.
Bottas has won two grands prix so far this season and has a couple of pole positions, and Wolff admits it came as no shock to him to see the 27-year-old shine.
"I'm not surprised," he said. "I've known him for a long time and I knew that his dream was to be in a car that is competitive and that lets him win races.
"When the deal was done I think this was just what he wanted. He got his head down, keeps on working flat out with the engineers at the factory - and he is doing a very good job."
