Hair and cancer

Hair loss is the most known and visible side effect of chemotherapy, a medical treatment that acts on cancer cells by destroying them or preventing them from multiplying. As a result, many patients are physically and psychologically affected by the loss of what they regard as part of their femininity. The solution ? Opt for a wig. But this option has a cost. The average price of a wig varies between € 250 and € 575 (obviously the more the effect is natural and the longer the hair, the higher the bill) ... and the social security reimburses only € 125 on this purchase. As a result, patients who are in financial difficulty are in difficulty.

Solidhair to support women

Faced with this finding, the Solidhair association had an idea: sell hair for the benefit of those who do not have any more. Since 2015 , the association has recovered natural hair strands (only) to sell to wigmakers. The money raised is donated to people with cancer and financial difficulties.

How to help women with breast cancer?

Want to participate in this beautiful project? Arm yourself with your scissors or go to the hairdresser. The association recovers locks of natural hair measuring at least 25 cm. There is a network of hairdressers partners (to find on the site of the association) but one can also cut oneself hair. It is enough then to put an elastic band or to weave its dry hair before cutting net the locks to avoid that they get tangled and are lost. Then you just have to pack your hair and send it to the Solidhair association (14 rue des Fauvettes, 95450 Us-en-Vexin (France)).
