A Nintendo Switch version of 'Final Fantasy XV' is "under investigation".

Square Enix, who developed the 2016 open world role-playing game - which is the 15th instalment of the popular franchise - have said the game is currently undergoing a series of technical tests to determine whether or not it will be possible to bring a version of the game onto Nintendo's new hybrid console.

'Final Fantasy XV' director Hajime Tabata told Eurogamer: "We're actually doing very specific technical investigations into what's possible at the moment. We've completed those tests and have worked out where the ground lies. We're currently in the middle of the discussion and debate about what we should be doing, and how to realise that on the Switch."

And whilst things are looking positive for a Switch port, Hajime insists nothing is confirmed as of yet, because the developers haven't come to a "full decision".

He added: "[O]ne thing we value is to optimise the way the game plays and the experience for the individual hardware it's on rather than a one-size fits all approach. We can't currently announce anything - we haven't come to a full decision on the best way to do it yet. We're having very open, frank discussions with Nintendo at the moment about what they think is the best thing to do."

Meanwhile, Hajime recently revealed the development team are "pleased" with how the game - which is currently available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - has evolved.

He said: "From a personal level, and from a dev team standpoint, what really resonates with us is the fan feedback we got from the day one release. A lot of the major criticisms was that they felt the story was lacking in certain aspects. So for us, we did our best to give back and supplement those areas where people felt it was lacking.

"When those fans who were complaining about the story from the early days are now completely satisfied with the overall experience, that's the moment when we can say as a team that we're pleased with what we did for 'Final Fantasy XV'. And obviously, we don't plan to draw this out forever. At some point we're going to have to mark the end of the journey for 'Final Fantasy XV'. With that said, we're still listening to what the fans want and expect for this game."
