We thought we were all good. We protected ourselves from UVA (which damages our elastic fibers, disturb our pigmentation mechanisms) UVB (which tans but burns), Infra red (which penetrate to the dermis and deteriorate collagen and elastin), but never of this new enemy of our skin: visible light.
Visible light: small tower at the ray radius
"The solar spectrum is composed of different types of rays that differ according to their energy and their ability to penetrate more or less far into our skin," recalls Olivier Doucet, Vice President Research and Development of Lancaster Laboratories. They are classified in order of wavelengths: the UVB does not go beyond the epidermis, unlike the others that penetrate the dermis. And, if UVA and UVB represent less than 10% of the solar spectrum, infra red and visible light represent them, 90% »
If for some time some solar products know how to protect us from the IR we did not do anything against this visible light which nevertheless represents nearly 45% of the rays emitted by the sun.
However, visible light has an enormous importance in our daily life because it is thanks to it, for example, that we can distinguish the colors. It is also that produce projectors, neons, lighting. But we now know that its deleterious effects are numerous: creator of free radicals, it generates, even in the deep layers of the skin cells dysfunction that participates in our accelerated aging.
360 ° shields
Conscious of these dangers to the health of our skin, laboratories have developed strategies against visible light.
"We have patented a technology that guarantees the protection of our cells against solar photo aging," explains Isabelle Benoit, Director of Scientific Innovation Institute Esthederm. UV In Cellium® allows skin cells to resist solar radiation by reactivating their insufficient or sun-saturated defense and repair mechanisms. It provides protection against oxidative stress (wrinkles, loss of firmness), anti-inflammatory protection (internal inflammation and hyperpigmentation), protection against DNA damage that alter genetic material. It is, of course, supplemented by optimized protection against UVA / UVB. That's what we called Global Cellular Protection. "
