Renee Powell has been inducted into the PGA America Hall of Fame, following in her father’s footsteps.
The PGA Head Professional at Clearview Golf Club has been admitted to the Hall of Fame after an influential career as one of the ambassadors of the game of golf.
She was the second African-American woman to compete on the Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour and also the first black woman to be elected to membership in the PGA of America.
Clearview Golf Club was built and designed by her late father William, who was the first African American to do so, and Powell says she is thrilled to be inducted.
"In thinking of all the professional golfers there have been over the many years and then to think that I am one of only 170 honoured in the PGA Hall of Fame," she said. "It is such an incredible honour but also very humbling."
South African gold legend Gary Player is among the seven names to be introduced to the Hall of Fame in 2017.
