The signed album for John Lennon's murderer is for sale.

The Beatles icon signed the record for Mark Chapman a few hours before he shot him in Manhattan in December 1980. Chapman kept the album in a large flowerpot at the entrance to the Dakota apartments while waiting for John and Yoko Ono to return to do the terrible act. Chapman shot four times in the back of the musician.

The cover and dust jacket of the album, which was purchased from a private buyer in 1999, still shows the murderer's fingerprints. The current owner has now decided to put it up for sale for the equivalent of around 1.5 million euros. Gary Zimet, the head of the American autograph trade 'Moments in Time', tells the 'Daily Mail' about Chapman's album: "A passerby discovered the album in a flowerpot at night and handed it over to the police, who kept it as evidence and returned to him a year later with a thank you letter from the prosecutor. " The Beatles fan then kept it under his bed for 18 years and then handed it over to a new owner, who now also sells it via 'Moments in Time'. Zimet describes the "somewhat dilapidated" piece as "probably the most important rock'n'roll artifact in history".
