Mesut Ozil is ready to let his contract run down at Arsenal before joining Manchester United on a free transfer, reports have claimed.

The German international is in to the final 12 months of his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, and so far there is no sign of him penning a new one after the latest round of talks were put on hold.

Ozil is reported to be asking for £250,000 a week with the Gunners, a figure they are unwilling to meet, and unless there is a compromise, the player could walk away for free at the end of the season.

Reports are now suggesting that Ozil has no intention of penning a new deal with the Gunners and is angling for a move to United, where he could link up with Jose Mourinho once again.

The pair worked together at Real Madrid, and Ozil has spoken in the past of the huge impact Mourinho had on his career, giving him the confidence to play for a club like Los Blancos.

Mourinho clearly rates the player highly as well and will no doubt be keen on wrapping up a deal, especially if he is available on a free transfer.
